Junior Designer – Creative Marketing Services

Penguin Random House is seeking a Junior Designer with a strong understanding of current trends in marketing and social media design to join our team! This role will conceptualize, design, and execute innovative marketing, publicity, and promotional projects under tight deadlines for multiple literary and commercial publishing imprints, including Penguin, Riverhead and Viking. This position is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level designer looking to be challenged and grow in a fast-paced publishing environment!Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Designing print and online advertisements and promotional materials, including back ads, shelf talkers, static and animated ads, printed postcards, posters, bookmarks, point-of-purchase displays, and html e-cards.
  • Creating dynamic and shareable pieces, which include videos, animated gifs, styled photos and striking designs, for a variety of social media platforms.
  • Creating visual presentations for seasonal sales conferences, advertising campaigns, author meetings, and agent meetings.
  • Preparing designed files for printing, with an understanding of the crucial difference between online and print pieces.
  • Distributing mechanicals to appropriate individuals and ensuring they are routed in a timely manner.
  • Working with Editors, Publishers, and Art Directors from concept stage to finished, printed product.
  • Communicating between the Marketing, Editorial, Managing Editorial, Copyediting, Publicity, and Production departments.
  • Pulling ad copy from an internal database.
  • Collaborating with vendors and media contacts.
  • Researching new platforms and presenting new ideas to the group.

Please Apply If You Meet The Following Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of six months’ design experience
  • Previous design internship is strongly preferred
  • Genuine interest in the book publishing industry
  • Proven ability to create and revise designs under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Understanding of color principles as applied to print color correction and design
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of File Maker Pro and Microsoft Word, including PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, Dreamweaver, and basic HTML coding preferred
