Unpaid Internship–Queens Museum Communications Intern: Winter/Spring 2019

The Queens Museum is looking for a capable and enthusiastic individual to assist the Communications department. Over the course of this internship, the Museum will be working on the Summer exhibition and preparing for exhibitions in the Fall in addition to many more educational and public events. The internship will run alongside the summer and academic season of the year. Institutionally, our goal is to increase our capacity to build public awareness of our programs and initiatives through media campaigns and engaging content creation.
The Communications Intern will provide a variety of creative and administrative assistance to the Communications department. These responsibilities include:
Essential Job Functions:
Support the design of print and digital media, and any additional collateral from concept to completion
Manage multiple projects with varying timelines
Monitor daily news and flag stories relevant to the Queens Museum
Conduct media research; assist with media outreach; archive contacts and coverage
Assemble press lists; assist with social media; and draft press materials
Qualifications:
Communications, communications design, graphic design, or public relations major or minor is preferred.
Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and basic Adobe Premiere Pro.
Well-versed using Web platforms, Web CMS, social media outlets, and excellent digital media skills
Previous experience interning in a media relations position would be helpful.
Strong communications skills – both verbal and written – are important.
A strong interest in learning how to create engaging materials to generate interest in Museum initiatives.
Candidates must be able to work at least 2 days a week.
This is an unpaid internship. Candidates must be enrolled in college and provide the museum with documentation of credits received in exchange for the internship opportunity.
The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Coordinator and regularly interface with the Director of Communications. The start date for this position is January 7
