Winter Advertising Internship, 2019


We have obtained funding to provide 5 internships in creative departments of advertising agencies during winter session 2019. These internships run from January 4- January 25 (M-F, Fridays are half days that meet in the morning at The One Club) and come with a paid stipend and the option of academic credit as a graphic design elective. This program is a partnership with The One Club
To find out more, come to the Information Session on Monday, October 1, 2018 or Wednesday, October 10, 2018 during free hour (12:10-1 pm) in Klapper Hall 107. We will discuss the program and application process. Yes, seniors graduating in Dec. 2017 are eligible to apply.

Paid Spring Internships at Madison Square Garden (MSG) Company

4A’s Multicultural Advertising Summer Internship Program–Deadline Oct. 27, 2018

The 4A’s Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) connects aspiring diverse entry-level advertising professionals with prestigious advertising agencies. MAIP fellows engage in a 22-week nation-wide fellowship that’s both virtual and in-agency: fellows focus on training and development specific to the advertising industry. Simultaneously, the program offers advertising agencies the opportunity to access top talent and strengthens the 4A’s efforts to enhance and sustain the health and wellness of our industry. F is a periodic print-only publication that began as a magazine about a magazine, but is increasingly an actual magazine.

Climate Change Poster Contest

The SEES (School of Earth & Environmental Sciences) Club is looking for artists interested in creating graphic, eye-catching posters to be displayed at our week-long Climate Change Week event. Posters will be printed (40” x 55”) and displayed across the quad. Seeking designs that will inspire thought about how climate change is affecting all of us and evoke a sense of need for change.

>At Empower Games, we’re looking to revolutionize high school and college education through the power of memorable and engrossing gaming experiences. We are a growing studio working with content experts and skilled designers to ensure positive learning outcomes.
>We are currently working on an educational molecular biology game built with Unity that features a unique environment and rather novel game mechanics. The game will be funded through SBIR grants and we are collaborating with Queens College  to research its effects on student outcomes.
>We are seeking a concept artist to illustrate some game mechanics and draw some molecular biology backdrops we intend to have in the demo. Payment would be between $80-$200 per piece.

Unpaid Internship at Comedy Central

Comedy Central television series “Broad City” is looking for art department interns for its 5th season:
This internship starts ASAP and runs through the end of October.
 
• This is an unpaid internship and must be done for school credit
• 2-3 days/week, no more than 8 hours per day
• Knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Photoshop/Illustrator a plus
• Duties will include: assisting the art department with research and administrative tasks, performing occasional runs for the art department, potentially working on graphics or other small projects
• Lunch will be provided

The Knight News is looking for a graphic designer

The Knight News, the Queens College student-run newspaper is looking for a graphic designer to assist them in different areas of the paper.
We are looking for:
(1) a graphic designer with excellent proficiency in ADOBE INDESIGN, to help with bi-weekly layouts on TUESDAYS
(2) a graphic and/or web designer to help with the restructuring/re-vamping of our website, www.theknightnews.com 
(3) a graphic designer to help us redesign our logo, and create one for our new photoblog: Humans of Queens College

JOB SUMMARY
Graphic Design and Prepress:

  • Receive print files and prepare them for print production
  • Make and send PDF proofs to clients for approval
  • Manipulate files as needed

Customer Service:

  • Interact with clients concerning their print projects and file set up
  • Interact with outside vendors about purchasing materials and services

QUALIFICATIONS
The Candidate must be detail-oriented with some proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and be interested in learning graphic design and pre-press production. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Must be able to work with multiple projects and be able to perform within tight deadlines. Candidates will also learn to produce hi-res image color/cortections and layout adjustments.

  • Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (lnDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Publisher, Excel)
  • Some typographic and layout skills preferred, but not required
  • Strict attention to detail, and good organizational, project management, and file organization skills

INTERN WILL BE TRAINED IN

  • Setting up files for Xerox, Indigo and offset presses
  • Traditional prepress skills, including trapping, halftones, screen angles, and dot
  • Creating and revising designs and layouts for specific printed projects
  • Preparing and creating style guides, mock-ups and presentation comps Preparing final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of printing

Making various formats of supplied artwork produc:tion-ready and resolving artwork issues that arise during production

  • Image retouching, clipping paths and additional image manipulation
  • Packaging and preflighting files for release to printers or media partners
