The City College of New York’s Human Rights Forum presents: Human Rights Matter to Everyone
An Art Competition Create a poster design on the theme of human rights – use your imagery and graphics to express a message related to human rights.
Application Deadlines:
Phase 1: No later than April 9, 2014 (5 p.m.)
Phase 2:  No later than April 25, 2014 (5 p.m.)
ELIGIBILITY
All matriculated baccalaureate, Master’s or Ph.D student degree students of the City University of New York are invited to apply.
THEME
Human rights recognize the inherent value of each person, based on principles of dignity, equality and mutual respect, which are shared across cultures, religions and philosophies. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/history.shtml), adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948, sets out the basic rights and freedoms that apply to all people. Topics for entries might include: Armed Conflict, Children, Detention and Imprisonment, Discrimination, Freedom of Expression, Health and Education, International Justice, Poverty, Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, Women’s Rights.
 
RECOGNITION
Entrants compete for one of three prizes:
Grand Prize: $2,000
1st Prize (UNDERGRADUATE) $1,000
1st Prize (GRADUATE) $1,000
In addition to the cash prizes, all Phase 2 entrants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held on May 8, 2014.
COMPETITION GUIDELINES
Entries are limited to one work per artist or artistic team. Works will be submitted in two phases:
Phase 1: By April 9, 2014 (5 p.m.), entrants will submit a digital image of their work to [email protected]. Image should be in JPEG format and a minimum of 300 dpi. Artists will be notified via email no later than April 30, 2014, as to whether or not their entry has been accepted to go on to Phase 2.
Phase 2:Entries selected for Phase 2 will be received IN PERSON between April 23-25, 2014 (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) in:

Entries will be displayed from April 28-May 16, 2014 in the Cohen Library Archives.
PHASE 2 SUBMISSION FORMAT.
SIZE: 24”x 36” Landscape or Portrait orientation is acceptable
MOUNTING: All entries must be mounted on Posterboard/Foamcore
ARTIST INFORMATION: All entries must have the following information typed and affixed to the back of the mounting material:
•          NAME/ADDRESS/EMAIL/PHONE
•          COLLEGE OF MATRICULATION
•          STATUS [UNDERGRAD or GRAD] & MAJOR
•          ARTIST’S BIO OF NO MORE THAN 50 WORDS
•          ARTIST’S STATEMENT OF NO MORE THAN 75 WORDS
COPYRIGHTS
Applicants will be asked to provide written authorization allowing the Human Rights Poster Contest and its CCNY sponsors to reproduce and distribute to third parties a limited edition copy (fewer than 500 copies)  of the winning entry and to use digital images of the posters as well as artist photos on their websites and promotional materials.
 
JUDGING
Entries will be judged by a faculty/staff committee. Special emphasis will placed on the relevance of the work to the theme of Human Rights. Jurors retain the right to exclude any work from consideration.  The decision of the jurors is final as relating to all contest matters.
 
RETURN OF ENTRIES
Entries may be picked up from the NAC 6/141 between May 19th and May 23rd, 2014. Materials not picked up by the final date will be disposed of at the organizers’ discretion.
