Robin Hood has a 30-year track record and is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization. In addition to funding 200 of the best nonprofits serving low-income New Yorkers, we amplify financial support with a range of management and real estate assistance. Building on our experience in New York City, Robin Hood is exploring new ways to expand our impact, including an explicit focus on increasing mobility from poverty and new collaborations with strategic partners.
Position Overview
This position is a fantastic opportunity for an early career professional who is talented and enjoys converting text and complicated data into rich visual PowerPoint presentations through infographics and innovative chart design. The primary role requires translating Robin Hood metrics (i.e., Poverty Tracker reports, program reports, sales materials) into a format that can be presented using a compact and creative approach that is accurate, engaging, easily accessible and relevant. The candidate will also provide production support to the Art Director with print and digital projects. Our goal is to create information rich, comprehensible internal communication collateral and compelling external marketing materials that maintain the elevated design standard Robin Hood holds in the market.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Art Director with diverse design deliverables that aim to distill complex concepts and stories into informative and digestible materials that bring clarity and insights to target audiences.
  • Collaborate with the Development Team in the creation of sales support materials including PowerPoint presentations and sales sheets.
  • Follow rigid brand guidelines while providing design solutions for print and digital communication materials including invitations, flyers, programs, brochures, reports and digital assets for social and web.
  • Create clear and compelling presentations from technical information and program analytics by using unique vector icons and manipulated images in photoshop.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Graphic Design/Design Communication with a minimum of two years of relevant experience
  • Advanced PowerPoint working knowledge required
  • Proficiency in Adobe suite software package particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Must be comfortable with creating unique icons in Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Experience with Mail Chimp and/or related email marketing applications
  • Very strong typography skills and design sensibility
  • Knowledge of print production and pre-press best practices
  • Ability to take and process constructive artistic feedback and work independently
  • Data analysis and reporting skills a plus
  • Excellent project management skills with good judgment and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Self-Starter. Skilled at completing tasks with minimal support
  • Customer service orientation and good interpersonal skills
  • Team player and collaborator
  • Commitment to social change and understanding of poverty-related issues.
  • Familiarity with the nonprofit sector, and interest in helping to strengthen nonprofit organizations towards greater effectiveness.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and operate in a fast-paced working environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on excellent Outlook, Word, and Excel skills. Experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems preferred.

ARTS 370 Classes – Fall 2019

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design-Intro to AR/VR
Class Number: 42389
Day & Time: Wednesdays 6:00 PM – 9:50 PM
Instructor: Michelle Cortese

Intro to AR/VR Students will learn how to create mobile Augmented Reality (AR) applications (for Facebook and Instagram) using Spark AR Studio and simple Virtual Reality (VR) applications (for the Oculus rift) using Unity 3D game engine.
Prerequisite: Some experience with 3D design and/or computer programming suggested but not required.

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design-Animation 2/3
Class Number: 42394
Day & Time: Wednesdays 1:40 PM – 5:30 PM
Instructor: Dustin Grella

Students with experience in animation production will be exploring the experimental documentary genre to create a 1-2 minute complete animation that can be used for presentation in publications or film festivals. Topics we will cover during the course of making the film will be writing a creative brief, audio recording, storyboarding, concept art, animatics, shot lists, file organization and presentation of the film. Students interested in completing a 2-4 minute animation can contact Professor Grella to discuss ideas and taking this course for two consecutive semesters.

Prerequisite: ARTS193 VT: Intro to Digital Animation and ideally at least one other animation course

Professor Grella is an animator and documentary filmmaker whose work has screened at Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals as well as the Museum of Modern Art, has been published in the New York Times and has won the Walt Disney Award at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design-Physical Computing.

Instructor: Danne Woo

Physical Computing. Using a keyboard and mouse is not how we interact with each other in the real world, so why do we still use these archaic tools to communicate with our machines? In this course we will be focusing on how we can design physical interfaces and use microprocessors like the Arduino, along with sensors, motors, knobs, switches, cameras, etc. to allow humans to more naturally interact with digital and physical installations.

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design-Typeface Design.
Class Number: 42395
Day & Time: Tuesdays 2:00 PM – 5:50 PM
Instructor: Thomas Jockin

Typeface Design. This course will enable students to learn the tools of modern typeface design and take students through concept generation and creating a digital font. This is a great elective course for students interested in communication design and user experience design.

Note: Apple Computers are required for this class, the software isn’t available for a PC.

Our primary aims are to increase diversity in the creative professions, and to foster social and environmental responsibility in the artists, designers, and studios of tomorrow. Scholarship recipients are selected not only for their talent and their need, but also for their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the larger community through their work. Each award is paid directly to the recipient’s school and applied toward tuition.
Since its inception in 1995, AIGA Worldstudio scholarships has awarded more than one million dollars to 700+ minority and economically disadvantaged college students of art and design.

About us: DoITT partners with over 100 government entities to help them obtain the right technology solutions to meet their business needs and delivery services to New Yorkers
Your Role:
• Contribute to DoITT’s project work on multiple platforms
• Work on the development of application, process and design standards
• Work with UX researchers to create and conduct user research for software products and features
• Discuss, present and share design ideas with project team and stakeholders
Your Experience and Skills:
• Graduate student in visual design, UX design, application or web design/development, or related field
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications or other visual design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, OmniGraffle/Visio, Adobe XD)
• Knowledge of design-level HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Interest in user research, information technology and/or government operations
• Knowledge of WordPress or other content management system software, PHP, or Angular a plus
• Strong visual design skills a plus
